Lemon Battery

Create a small battery using the chemical energy in a lemon to power a small LED or digital device.

What you need

• 1 lemon
• 1 copper coin or copper wire
• 1 zinc nail or galvanized nail
• 2 alligator clip wires
• 1 small LED or digital clock

How it works

The lemon juice acts as an electrolyte. The zinc and copper create a chemical reaction that moves electrons — this flow of electrons is what we call electricity. You have made a simple battery!
